President & CEO, Koichi Komatsu After graduating from Hitotsubashi University in 1972, Koichi Komatsu began his career at Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) in the Heavy Machinery Department. His first assignment overseas was in New York City in 1984 at Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC), MC’s principal subsidiary in North America. Returning to MC Tokyo’s Heavy Machinery Department in 1995, Mr. Komatsu later joined the newly created Investment Banking & Financial Services Department, where he was instrumental in the acquisition of one of Japan’s largest convenience store chains, Lawson, and the establishment of a private equity fund and a real estate investment fund. While in this role, Mr. Komatsu further enhanced his management skills by participating in Harvard’s Advanced Management Program. In April of 2002 Mr. Komatsu was promoted to General Manager of MC’s Business Creation Unit, where he managed MC’s participation in a venture fund in China as well as a Clean Energy Fund. A year later Mr. Komatsu became Senior Vice President and Assistant to the Group CEO of the New Business Initiative Group, which covered financial services, healthcare, logistics, information technology and consumer related businesses. He progressed to be the General Manager of the Innovation Center in 2005 and was named MC’s Chief Innovation Officer in 2006. At the Innovation Center, Mr. Komatsu managed the creation of new businesses in areas such as carbon nanotechnology and environmental business, including lithium ion batteries, renewable energy and carbon credit trading. Concurrently in 2006, Mr. Komatsu was promoted to MC Executive Vice President and one year later he was promoted to Group CEO of the Business Innovation Group, where he was responsible for renewable energy, environmental and water related businesses, information technology, and consumer and healthcare related businesses. Mr. Komatsu returned to New York as President and CEO of Mitsubishi International Corporation in April 2009. Concurrently, Mr. Komatsu is MC’s Executive Vice President for the Americas, and Chief Regional Officer for MC in North America overseeing operations of approximately 60 MC-affiliated companies in North America. In addition, Mr. Komatsu is the Chief Sustainability Officer for Mitsubishi Corporation’s North American operations, demonstrating a commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of the company’s business. ![]() Executive Vice President, Tetsuo Nishiumi Tetsuo Nishiumi joined Mitsubishi Corporation’s (MC) Corporate Planning and Development Department in 1975 after graduating from Harvard College. Six years later, he was transferred to the Carbon Products and Materials Department where he remained for 10 years and was promoted to Manager responsible for sales and marketing of petroleum coke. In 1992, he was transferred to Mitsubishi International Corporation (MIC) in New York City, as the Assistant General Manager, Fuel Division. He coordinated and acted as a liaison between MIC and Union Carbide Corporation on a joint venture project that was one of the largest global carbon producers at the time. In 1995, when the venture was sold, Mr. Nishiumi and headed back to Tokyo. During the 10 year period between 1996 and 2006 Mr. Nishiumi gained management experience in the Energy, LPG and LNG units. His responsibilities as Assistant General Manager and General Manager ranged from planning and promoting LNG and gas pipeline projects in Oman, Venezuela, Turkmenistan, China and Australia to creating long-term business strategies, managing investment portfolios and coordinating personnel in the Fuel Group. In April 2006, he became General Manager, Energy Business Group CEO Office and served as a Chairman of Energy Investment and Credit Committee, as well as a committee member in the Portfolio-Management Committee. A year later, he was promoted to Senior Vice President, Division COO, Natural Gas Business Division leading the establishment of new business models for global LNG projects while overseeing six business units and approximately 100 staff members worldwide. In April 2009, he was appointed as Executive Vice President of MIC. |
