Mission
Founded in 1992, the mission of the Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) Foundation for the Americas (formerly known as the Mitsubishi International Corporation Foundation) is to promote environmental causes throughout the Americas in the broadest sense, which encompasses both the physical and social environments in which we live. In furtherance of our mission we support a wide range of projects in the following four categories:
- Environmental Education
- Conservation and Biodiversity
- Environmental Justice
- Sustainable Development
A concrete example of how the MC Foundation for the Americas carries out these objectives is its grant to The Nature Conservancy to create a manual for coalition building for protected area conservation. This manual was published in 2005 and will undoubtedly prove to be a useful tool for the better international coordination of conservation efforts.

Guidelines
Because the staff and material resources of the Foundation are limited, requests to be considered for support should be made brief, in writing only.
Requests should describe your organization and the project for which you are seeking support, with a budget for both the organization and the project. Evaluation criteria, other funding sources and proof of your 501(c)(3) status should be submitted together with the name, address, email, telephone and facsimile numbers of a contact person at your organization.
MC Foundation for the Americas-supported programs are geographically limited to the Americas. The Foundation may give preference to programs where the corporation has a strong presence, or where there is an opportunity for employee volunteerism.
For organizations in Europe and Africa, please visit the Mitsubishi Corporation Fund for Europe & Africa website. For Asia and Oceania, please visit the Corporate Citizenship section of the Mitsubishi Corporation website.
Grant Calendar
Requests for funding are accepted all year long. However, all grants are subject to approval at the annual board meeting, which is held every autumn. To be considered for approval, it is advisable to submit a request for funding no later than March of each year.
Exclusions
The MC Foundation for the Americas does not provide financial support for individuals. It does not make gifts for religious, political or lobbying purposes. It does not support any organization that discriminates on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, marital status or handicap. It only makes direct grants and donations to 501(c) (3) non-profit organizations in the U.S. or their equivalents overseas.

Environmental Breakfasts
The MC Foundation for the Americas sponsors an environmental breakfast series in New York. These breakfasts have been held several times a year since 1993 and they provide an opportunity for environmental organizations and grant-makers to network, learn about funding possibilities and exchange ideas about environmental issues at both the local and international level. In 2007 breakfasts have featured topics such as wildlands conservation, environmental justice, and animal welfare.
U.N. World Environment Day 2005
The MC Foundation for the Americas and affiliate Sound Energy Solutions sponsored the Renewable Energy Leadership Summit: The Latest on Efficiency, Pollution Control & Climate Change -- Policy, Technology and Financing -- at United Nations World Environment Day 2005. The venue for the celebrations was San Francisco, California, where mayors from around the world met to pay tribute to green cities and help plan for a sustainable future, a first step towards the signing of the San Francisco Urban Environmental Accords.
